Responding to the climate crisis: at home, in community, in the world

Welcome to A Climate Citizen, a forum for sharing solutions that inspire and empower us to respond to the current climate crisis. Here I blog and share the micro and macro solutions I have come across in my efforts to answer this question…

How can we help our Mother Earth to heal her biosphere and maintain a life-supporting climate for the sake of all life on our planet?

I am not a scientist or an engineer. I am a historian by training and an educator by profession. Most of all, I am a concerned citizen who is doing all I can to learn about and respond to the climate crisis. The good news is that the more I have learned, the more I am inspired! There is already a wealth of solutions being implemented and so many more in the works. We can do this! But we have no time to waste.

Each one of us can make a difference. While it might seem that we have little impact individually, don’t underestimate the so-called butterfly effect. The cumulative effect of the actions and voices of climate citizens the world over can create the change we need. It is already beginning to.

To quote Clara Kitongo, a young American climate activist from Pittsburgh…

“I need to at least do something, because to do nothing is not an option.”

(National Geographic interview, 5/10/22)

What is a climate citizen?

One who is committed to supporting and implementing solutions to the climate crisis.
